When you eat a conscious diet, your body is begins to function at a higher potential and that includes your mind. Meditation is the second step to improving the functionality of your mind and improving your quality of life. The benefits include things like improved focus, emotional stability, clarity in decision making, relief of anxiety and depression, improved physical health, better sleep and endurance.
A lot of people have the impression that meditation means sitting quietly and completely clearing your mind for an hour. While that is one form of meditation, there are many. The definition of meditation is to engage in contemplation or reflection. I imagine most of us are doing this frequently throughout the day. I love to contemplate my goals for the day in the shower each morning so I start my day with clarity and focus. Meditation is practiced in all cultures and religions worldwide.
My favorite way to meditate is to lie down, close my eyes and listen to a guided imagery meditation by Belleruth Naperstak on my headphones. I downloaded a few on my phone so I always have them with me. Yes, my mind wanders sometimes and I start listing the things I need to do or I replay a stressful conversation that upset me. When I realize I’m doing it, I let it go and focus back on Belleruth’s voice and try to imagine what she’s describing. I asked some Indigo Children what their favorite meditations are on YouTube to give you some free options to try. Chakra balancing is apparently a big hit, but there is plenty to choose from here. Put yourself in the least distracting place you can find, try headphones, close your eyes, sit or lie down, get comfortable and go for it. Fifteen minutes a day is a great amount of time to start with. After a few months, try increasing to 30 minutes.
